ood job, soldier. New mission. Take embassy vehicle to Stalingrad. Wear civilian clothes.

Astero ripped up the message and threw the pieces in the trash. He even thought about stomping and burning them. His men gave their lives in the mission, and he almost lost his. What did he receive in exchange? Another mission. More duties. All he needed now was a way home. In his opinion, he earned it. He wanted to scream, rant and rave, or worse. When he imagined this moment, he saw it differently in his mind's eye. A grumble and several curses escaped him, and he shook his head. Now, he knew his next steps, but first, he'd take a moment for himself. He decided to give Magdiana a proper goodbye before marching his happy ass back into Hell. She'd make it home while he fought to free the world from tyranny. It might not be the end he hoped for, but it felt like enough of a reward. At least, one of them made it out safely.

As he exited the embassy, a man with black hair and a gaunt frame walked down the street. He wore clothing similar to Astero's as he bit into a green apple. He did a triple take as he recognized the man from the train. It took him several seconds to realize where he recognized him from. He gazed in disbelief before he asked, "You're the man I met on the train to a POW camp, aren't you?"

The man in question stopped in his tracks. He turned and smiled mid bite. "Well, if it isn't the infamous Loki," he said with a mouth full of fruit. "I see you made it out of there."

"Says Houdini and his disappearing act." He chuckled. "Yeah, I got out thanks to some reinforcements." His eyes gravitated towards the French embassy, and he felt a shift in his resolve. If he visited with Mag, he'd never build up the resolve to leave, and he knew it. An audible breath escaped him, filling the air between them. "Would you mind doing me a favor?"

"That depends on the favor," he said with a wide, playful smirk on his face. Clearly, he enjoyed toying with Astero.

Astero stifled a groan, but pointed him in the right direction nonetheless. "There's a woman at the French embassy, Magdiana. Keep an eye out for her until they can send her home, okay?"

The man sobered at the sudden seriousness. "Why me and not you? You know her, don't you?" he asked, biting into his apple again. Some juice dribbled down his chin, and he didn't bother to wipe it away.

"They're sending me off on another mission. No rest for the wicked." He laughed at his own joke. "Anyway, I can't look after her when I leave. I'm sure all this worry is for nothing."

Astero paused for a long time as the other man watched him before he cleared his throat. "Guess I've run outta excuses to stick around. Take care."

"I never did agree, but since you insist, I'll keep a wary eye on your lady love for you.
